Further Overnight Works as Progress Continues on Eastern Access Route

14 February 2025

Construction works to the new Charterholme eastern access route, which will open up the site and provide access from Tritton Road continues to progress well following the appointment of contractors, GRAHAM.

Hamish Falconer, MP for Lincoln, joined Naomi Tweddle, Leader of City of Lincoln Council, along with Cllr Donnald Nannestad, Cllr Joshua Wells, and key Council Officers involved in delivery the development of the project to mark the launch of the site. They were accompanied by Leo Martin, Managing Director – Civil Engineering at John Grahams Construction, and David Chambers, Non-Executive Director at Lindum, to view the progress made so far.

The project, which includes the construction of a new road and bridge over the railway line, together with road improvements and associated drainage works along Tritton Road and new traffic signals at the Tritton Road and Dixon St junction remain on schedule for completion by in early 2026.

The overnight drainage works on Tritton Road, carried out in January, were successfully completed ahead of schedule. As a result, the final planned day of road closures was not required, ensuring minimal disruption to road users.

Further nighttime works are scheduled to take place on Tritton Road and Dixon Street in early March 2025, and to minimise disruption to road users this work will be carried out under nighttime working between the hours of 8pm and 6am.

There will be a diversion route in operation during these works, which has been designed to minimise disruption to the road network and keep the traffic flowing for all road users with northbound traffic being diverted via the Lincoln Bypass (A46) and southbound traffic being diverted to follow a route via Dixon Street and Boultham Park Road.

The diversion route, has been agreed with the local highways authority and Highways England and details of the route can be found on https://www.lincoln.gov.uk/downloads/download/53/charterholme. Directional signage, including early warning notice signage will be displayed from 17th February and the diversion route has been designed to minimise disruption to the road network and keep the traffic flowing for all road users.

Maria Clayton, Project Manager from the City of Lincoln Council’s Major Developments, said:

“Our contractors have co-ordinated the works in a way to cause the least amount of inconvenience to road users.”

“We understand that roadworks might be troublesome, but every effort has been made to keep traffic flowing smoothly while maintaining the highest safety standards.

“We appreciate the patience and cooperation of everyone affected and remain committed to working with our contractors to keep any inconvenience to an absolute minimum.”

Aidan Loughrey, Project Manager at GRAHAM, commented:

Progress is being made across all aspects of the project – which is great to see! With the upcoming bridge construction in early April, our focus will be on ensuring a seamless and efficient operation while minimising disruption to the local community”.
