The 3,200-home Western Growth Corridor development in Lincoln has been granted planning permission.
The project, which also includes a shopping centre, sports stadium, a hotel, bars and restaurants, commercial premises and a primary school, was approved by councillors on January 12.
The City of Lincoln Council’s planning committee passed a joint outline application submitted by Lindum Western Growth Community Ltd and the council, which set out the broad scope of the scheme.
In addition, councillors granted full planning permission for a new access point from Skellingthorpe Road and a spine road spur, a new junction at Tritton Road, and pedestrian, cycle and vehicle access over the railway.
The 240-hectare development, expected to be completed by 2036. Some residents raised concerns about traffic congestion and flood risk, which the council said it was confident mitigation measures would address concerns.
